Wheatgrass

About a week ago, I started getting 2 oz shots of wheatgrass from Jamba Juice in the mornings. The firt time, I was fine. The next few times I started feeling really nauseous... up to four hours after drinking it. So, I stopped drinking the wheatgrass. Has anyone else had reactions like that? I have a very weak stomach and I try to eat a lot of raw stuff because my body reacts really well to it (surprisingly). I thought that wheatgrass would be fine for me, help my stomach issues too even. Do I need to take some time to adjust to drinking grass? Typically, I come from the school of thought that when my body rejects something, its not for me. Wheatgrass may be another story.

I was thinking that maybe I have an allergy to it because along with the nausea came light headaches. I also read somewhere that the planters that you grow the grass in may acquire mold and when the mold is ingested, you can get really sick. Winterwheat is the safest grass to use but who knows where I can find that...

I have not experienced nausea but it can be very cleansing. When I do drink wheat grass on a regular basis I initia;lly get headaches from the detox, but after a while feel great. I am not sure of the quality or where the wheat grass comes from at Jamba juice. You could ask if it is organic and fresh, etc.
I know it can also be not recommened cause of its cooling properties, so mayby it is not good for your body.
    Hope this input helps.

      Thank you so much.

I'm just staying away from it. It made me feel bad too frequently.

wheatgrass is meant to be consumed on an empty stomach, so if you have eaten beforehand, even an hour beforehand, it can cause nausea. And it is such a powerful cleanser that the nausea can be a direct cleansing reaction which is in a way a good sign that the toxins are shifting. But, yes, always the body dictates, and after so long happily drinking a coffee cup of it in the morning for months, suddenly the smell of it made me reach. My body telling me it no longer wanted it.

I second Rachel's idea about finding the source (organic, etc) of the wheatgrass. I juice alot at home just cuz the places around here aren't certified organic.

btw, any whole foods type store with a bulk section will have a selection of wheat berries you can choose from to sprout your own wheatgrass ( I use hard red winter wheat berries myself)

    re : nausea, etc

I start my day with green juice, then will usually have raw fruit or veggies a few hours later, then lunch....anyway, if I've had anything before my juice (coffee, bite of breakfast, etc) it makes me a bit queasy. Also, wheatgrass shots are pretty potent - if you just all of a sudden started doing daily shots it was prolly quite a shock to your system.

A lot of the digestive and nausea problems with wheatgrass juice is from mold. Most wheatgrass is grown indoors or greenhouses which causes the mold problem. It cant all be washed off and the mold toxins are right in the grass.

If you can find a supplier of wheatgrass juice that has been grown outdoors, the mold problem is eliminated.

Dynamic Greens is one such supplier but I the smallest amount they will ship is $200.

Frozen wheatgrass juice is superior to dried or even the liquid in a bottle as fresh juice degrades very quickly. It may even be pasteurized and you dont want that.

From my understanding wheatgrass is no more special than anyother green, like dandelion or barley grass, what ever, different properties and all but the cleaning comes from the chloroplast. Wheatgrass is much more popular only because it is so easy to grow in the city and winter time.
If you get it from jamba I would bet that its is no where near organic. Even your fruits, if its organic but from Chile, I wouldn't eat it. Its all about standards. Its most easy to grow your own.
Also this machine begins its day with blue, green but if it doesn't intake enough water it too gets nauseous.

Also those like myself with deficient yin can find raw foods too much and cold foods..warming are better and more nurturing..as much as I think juicing and things like wheatgrass can be really good for you, they are not for every body..
